Medication-Assisted Treatment from SAMHSA Opioid Programs

The opioid crisis is on a sharp incline in the United States. Users who innocently started using a drug to alleviate pain can quickly fall victim to opioid use disorder (OUD) and develop a dependence on the drug. Fortunately, those struggling with an opioid addiction can find promising results in methadone clinics.

Methadone is approved by the FDA for OUD treatments such as dolophine tablets and methadose oral concentrate. Like Suboxone, Subutex, and Vivitrol, methadone is a safe, popular, and powerful medicine for overcoming an opioid dependence. By using it in a medication-assisted treatment (MAT) plan, individuals struggling with addiction can reduce their cravings, ease withdrawal symptoms, and block the effects of opioids.

SAMHSA-certified opioid treatment programs (OTP) are the exclusive source for methadone. During treatment, patients will take the required dose while supervised by a program practitioner. After recognized and repeated improvement, drugs may be administered to a patient for individual use at home. By combining the medication with the other resources involved in OTP treatment, such as therapy, support, lectures, and more, patients are able to work to overcome opioid dependence.

The minimum time of treatment is one year, though it may be used longer if patients so require. MAT practitioners will assist patients throughout treatment and adjust doses as necessary and provide later support to slowly come off the drug after recovery to prevent withdrawal symptoms.

If you are suffering from opioid dependence, you are not alone. October Road has helped countless individuals begin the recovery process since our founding in 2006. Our Asheville facility offers comprehensive help through an OTP, where we offer methadone and other medications to help you overcome OUD and regain control of your life.
